YW “Purse”uit of Excellence

We had our Young Women in Excellence last month.  We got the theme and idea from The Idea Door.  We ordered small bags and filled them with goodies for each of the girls.

The bags had

cell phone = faith (prayer is our connection to God, it takes faith and action for it to work),

We found Plastic Cell Phone Bubbles at a party store.

pocket mirror = divine nature (it allows us to see ourselves as God sees us),

We used small heart pocket mirrors found at a party store.

ID/driver’s license = individual worth (it tells defining information about each of us),

We took pictures of all the girls that we could.  Then we made them an ID.  We used a cartoony picture for the girls that we didn’t get to take their picture.

keys = knowledge (it helps us get to where we are going),

We cut out keys on green card stock (green for knowledge) with a quote on them about getting us to where we are going.

nail file = choice & accountability (bad choices constantly “prick” us where good choices smooth away rough edges and refine us).

We just bought the small brown/tan ones

gum = good works (we need share our good works with others),

Each girl got two piece — we totally miscalculated how many packs of gum we had to buy so each girl got 2 pieces instead of a pack.

the purse = integrity (it keeps everything together, it gives our structure for our personality),

We ordered small bags in bulk and wrote the girls names on them with puffy paint

hand sanitizer = virtue (it keeps us clean and pure),

We found them at a dollar store 3 per pack.

We had a great turnout and it was a fantastic evening — Now if we could just get our girls to do more Personal Progress!!

Pictures are in a totally random order — sorry.

Thank You Gift – Super Saturday

Our ward hosted a Super Saturday for all the youth 12 and up in the Stake.  They played games, had a few speakers, had a testimony meeting, a dance (the 12 and 13 year olds played games and watched a movie during the dance), ate lunch, dinner, snacks, etc.

One of my assignments was Thank You Gifts for the 3 speakers.  I couldn’t figure out what to do, so I finally emailed a good friend and she came up with the cutest Idea for me…

We purchased a bag of Riesen Candy, a tiny Flashlight and a Helium Balloon.  We attached all three together with yellow curly ribbon with a note that said – “Thanks for showing us the Riesen to Arise and Shine Forth.”

Keep Your Head, Heels and Standards High Standards Night

My Sister and I are both in the Young Women’s Presidency in our ward.  We were in charge of Standards Night last month.  My sister picked the theme “Keep Your Head, Heels, and Standards High” and we went from there…

We saw on Pinterest that you can run brown paper bags through your printer and print on them…However, for some reason we couldn’t make it work in any of the three printers we tried!  DUMB!  After being frustrated about it and not knowing how to decorate the front of the bag, my husband finally remembered that my Silhouette Cameo has sketch pens!!!  So the cameo drew out the design on all 30 bags for me.

I made High Heel Sugar Cookies and my fantastic sister -in-law came over and decorated them for me while I was making cake balls and peanut butter balls.

My husband (who is a fantastic graphic designer) designed the bookmarks for us.  I found the little girl online, but her dress wasn’t modest — So he added sleeves and made the front of the dress not so low cut!  We put the cookies and the bookmarks inside each bag and that was the girls “treat/gift” for coming.

My Sister wrapped shoe boxes with wrapping paper and then we displayed high heels on the boxes.  We had three tables like the one below.  One more just like this and then one with a black table cloth, red shoe box, and black heel.

We had a simple dessert table with cake balls, peanut butter balls and water bottles.  I’m so glad my sister gave me red and black dessert stands for Christmas!  They matched our decor perfectly!!

We also served a few grapes.

Here is a close up of the water bottles.  We cut out strips of red card stock and taped them to the water bottles (we removed the original labels).  Then we attached a circle with the theme “Keep your Head, Heels and Standards High with the little girl husband made modest.

We had a guest speaker come speak to the Young Women and their moms.  Melissa did a fantastic job and everyone loved her!

These are the thank you gifts I made for Melissa!  I never manage to get a picture of my blocks with a bow tied around them!  Pretend you see one! :)

I like how these turned out better — Now I need to make some for me! :) (3 blocks with 9 saysings)

L. Tom Perry
Russell M. Nelson
Dallin H. Oaks
M. Russell Ballard
Richard G. Scott
These are the 12 Apostles
Robert D. Hales

We also gave them this handout:
